கடையாந்தரத் தென்புறமான ஏதோமின் எல்லைக்கு நேராய், யூதா புத்திரரின் கோத்திரத்திற்குக் கிடைத்த பட்டணங்களாவன: கப்செயேல், ஏதேர், யாகூர்,

யோய்தாவின் குமாரன் பெனாயா கிரேத்தியருக்கும் பிலேத்தியருக்கும் தலைவனாயிருந்தான்; தாவீதின் குமாரரோ பிரதானிகளாயிருந்தார்கள்.

அப்படியே சிம்சோனும் அவன் தாயும் தகப்பனும் திம்னாத்துக்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டார்கள்; அவர்கள் திம்னாத் ஊர் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்கள்மட்டும் வந்தபோது, இதோ, கெர்ச்சிக்கிற பாலசிங்கம் ஒன்று அவனுக்கு எதிராக வந்தது.

ஆசாரியனாகிய சாதோக்கும், யோய்தாவின் குமாரனாகிய பெனாயாவும், தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய நாத்தானும், சீமேயியும், ரேயியும், தாவீதோடிருக்கிற பராக்கிரமசாலிகளும், அதோனியாவுக்கு உடந்தையாயிருக்கவில்லை.

அப்படியே ஆசாரியனாகிய சாதோக்கும், தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய நாத்தானும், யோய்தாவின் குமாரன் பெனாயாவும், கிரேத்தியரும் பிலேத்தியரும் போய், சாலொமோனைத் தாவீது ராஜாவினுடைய கோவேறுகழுதையின்மேல் ஏற்றி, அவனைக் கீகோனுக்கு நடத்திக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள்.

பெனாயா கர்த்தரின் கூடாரத்திற்குப் போய், அவனைப்பார்த்து: வெளியே வா என்று ராஜா சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் வரமாட்டேன்; இங்கேயே சாவேன் என்றான்; ஆகையால் பெனாயா ராஜாவினிடத்தில் போய், யோவாப் இன்னபடி சொல்லி, இன்னபடி எனக்கு மறுஉத்தரவு கொடுத்தான் என்று மறுசெய்தி சொன்னான்.

அப்படியே யோய்தாவின் குமாரன் பெனாயா போய், அவன்மேல் விழுந்து அவனைக் கொன்றுபோட்டான்; அவன் வனாந்தரத்திலிருக்கிற தன்னுடைய வீட்டிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

காத்தியரில் பரிசையும் ஈட்டியும் பிடித்து, சிங்கமுகம் போன்ற முகமும், மலைகளிலிருக்கிற வெளிமான் வேகம்போன்ற வேகமுமுள்ளவர்களாயிருந்து, யுத்தசேவகரான பராக்கிரமசாலிகள் சிலரும் வனாந்தரத்திலுள்ள அரணான இடத்தில் இருக்கிற தாவீது பட்சமாய்ச் சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

மூன்றாவது மாதத்தின் மூன்றாம் சேனாபதி யோய்தாவின் குமாரனாகிய பெனாயா என்னும் தலைமையான பிரதானி வகுப்பில் இருபத்துநாலாயிரம்பேர் இருந்தார்கள்.
