அந்த மனுஷன் யோவாபை நோக்கி: என் கைகளில் ஆயிரம் வெள்ளிக்காசு நிறுத்துக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டாலும், நான் ராஜாவுடைய குமாரன்மேல் என் கையை நீட்டமாட்டேன்; பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோமை நீங்கள் அவரவர் காப்பாற்றுங்கள் என்று ராஜா உமக்கும் அபிசாய்க்கும் ஈத்தாய்க்கும் எங்கள் காதுகள்கேட்கக் கட்டளையிட்டாரே.

அந்த மனிதன் யோவாபை நோக்கி: என்னுடைய கைகளில் ஆயிரம் வெள்ளிக்காசு நிறுத்துக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டாலும், நான் ராஜாவுடைய மகன்மேல் என்னுடைய கையை நீட்டமாட்டேன்; வாலிபனான அப்சலோமை நீங்களே காப்பாற்றுங்கள் என்று ராஜா உமக்கும் அபிசாய்க்கும் ஈத்தாய்க்கும் எங்கள் காதுகள் கேட்கக் கட்டளையிட்டாரே.

அம்மனிதன் யோவாபை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் எனக்கு 1,000 வெள்ளிக்காசைக் கொடுத்தாலும் நான் அரசனின் மகனைக் காயப்படுத்த முயலமாட்டேன். ஏனெனில் உங்களுக்கும், அபிசாயிக்கும், ஈத்தாயிக்கும் அரசன் இட்ட கட்டளையை நாங்கள் கேட்டோம். அரசன், ‘இளைய அப்சலோமைக் காயப்படுத்தாதபடி பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்’ என்றான்.

அதற்கு அம்மனிதன் யோவாபிடம் கூறியது: “என் கையில் ஆயிரம் வெள்ளிக் காசுகளை நீர் நிறுத்துக் கொடுத்தாலும் அரசரின் மகனுக்கு எதிராக நான் கையோங்க மாட்டேன். ‘இளைஞன் அப்சலோமுக்குத் தீங்கிழைக்க வேண்டாம்’ என்று உமக்கும், அபிசாய்க்கும், இத்தாய்க்கும் அரசர் கட்டளையிட்டதை நாங்கள் கேட்டோமே!
