அப்பொல்லோ என்பவன் கொரிந்து பட்டணத்திலே இருக்கையில், பவுல் மேடான தேசங்கள் வழியாய்ப் போய் எபேசுவுக்கு வந்தான்; அங்கே சில சீஷரைக் கண்டு:

அப்பொழுது பவுல்: யோவான் தனக்குப்பின் வருகிறவராகிய கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவில் விசுவாசிகளாக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்று மக்களுக்குச் சொல்லி, மனந்திரும்புதலுக்கு ஏற்ற ஞானஸ்நானத்தைக் கொடுத்தானே என்றான்.

பவுல், “மக்கள் தங்கள் வாழ்க்கையை மாற்றியமைக்க விரும்புவதைக் காட்டுவதற்கு யோவான் அவர்களை ஞானஸ்நானம் பெறும்படியாகக் கூறினான். அவனுக்குப் பின் வருகிற ஒருவரை நம்பும்படியாக யோவான் மக்களுக்குக் கூறினான். அவர் இயேசுவே” என்றான்.
